It has been raining non-stop here today, since really early this morning. We woke up to pouring rain, lightning and lots of thunder. Twice, as I sat at home listening to the storm, the flash of lightning and clap of thunder were so close together and so unbelievably loud, it sounds like the lightning was hitting our roof! It scared me since it was so loud, I actually jumped in my seat! As Cory left for school, I was worried that the only road to his school would be too flooded for him to drive through. Well, he made it to school okay, but people driving around downtown were not so lucky. There were some crazy flash floods today. And here are some pictures to show just how bad it was (I didn't take these...I stayed inside where it was warm and dry today! The guy in charge of security emailed them to all of the students.):
Here is water and mud rushing down a side street downtown
And this house wasn't doing too well, it was right in the path of the rushing flood water
I don't know if this is a good place to park your truck right now!
Bay Road, which is the main road that runs along the shore, was flooding all over the place
As you drive down Bay Road, there are two main streets that have deep gutted roads that are designed to drain flooding water from town into the ocean on days like this. And they get the job done, but the rushing water makes it impossible to drive through safely.
So when the water gets too high to drive through, people simply drive onto the sidewalk and over the pedestrian bridge that goes over the guts. Crazy!!!
I have never witnessed so much pouring rain, thunder, and lightning in my entire life. I guess living in California, you don't see much of that stuff anyway. Cory is pretty used to it from living in Wisconsin....but this is all still new to me! I bet you all wish you were visiting right now, right? :)

Scary! Tropical rains are something else that's for sure. Similar events happend in Venezuela when it would rain.
Wow, this amazing. Wisconsin gets thunderstorms but we seldom see flash floods. Thanks for sharing the pics and the good narative ! :)
